Governor's Awards for Excellence In Recycling
Tuesday, May 9 Luncheon, 11:30 a.m.
A presentation, honoring the recipients of the 2000 Governor's Awards for Excellence in Recycling, will be held during the Colalition"s conference. Since 1990, the awards program has recognized and honored local governments, businesses, organizations and individuals that have made outstanding contributions to source reduction and recycling and have furthered the state's solid waste reduction goals. "I welcome the opportunity to recognize businesses and individuals who are proactively working to improve our environment" said Governor Frank O'Bannon. "Taking care of Indiana is a responsibility we all share, and I am proud to honor those individuals and companies that make it their business to uphold this resposibility." Tuesday, May 9, 8:30 a.m. Acknowledge and celebrate all of the hard work done by our volunteers during this past year and get an update on the IRC's and the National Recycling Coalition's current and planned projects for the coming year. Elect new members to the IRC Board of Directors. If you are interested or if you'd like to recommend an IRC member to be nominated for the IRC Board, contact the IRC office for a nomination form to be returned by April 29,2000. Voice your opinion to the new IRC Board and to NRC Executive Director Will Ferretti, on activities that would help you to achieve your waste reduction and recycling goals - as we work together to increases source reduction, reuse, recycling and buying recycled in Indiana. |

But what is the role of the retail business community? As a national retailer of consumer good, Minneapolis-based Target Stores takes many proactive measures to protect and preserve the enviromnent, and has implemented a wide variety of source reduction, reuse, recycling, buying recyled and energy-savings efforts. These efforts have led to numerous local and national awards, most recently the American Forest and Paper Association's 1999 Best Paper Recycling Award and the EPA Waste Wise 1998 Partner of the Year Award. How can local citizen and government groups work more effectively with the retail business community to increase awareness of and participation in local recycling collection and buy-recycled programs?
