Indianapolis, IN, Today the Indiana Recycling Coalition (IRC) announces the launch of a new website: indianarecycles.org, which will deliver up-to-date recycling drop-off information and additional recycling resources to any Hoosier that has access to the Internet. This new statewide recycling resource is available thanks to a generous grant from Coca-Cola Recycling LLC.
“This website allows users to find out where to take any reusable or recyclable material, to learn about the benefits of recycling and much more,” said IRC Executive Director Carey Hamilton. “We have heard from our stakeholders for years about the need for a one stop shop for recycling information and we are thrilled to be able to fill that need with this dynamic new user-friendly website.”
One of the most important functions of the site is the zip-code based locator for a wide variety of recyclable materials. Users will simply type in the name of the item they wish to recycle and a zip code and the site will provide a listing of locations where the item may be recycled in the area. Additional features include recycling news and events, and an online library of waste reduction, reuse, recycling and composting information.
“By making it easier for Indiana residents to recycle all of their recyclables,” said John Burgess, president of Coca-Cola Recycling LLC, “this new website will help Coca-Cola achieve our long-term goal of recovering our packaging footprint, recycling the equivalent of a bottle and can for every one we sell in North America. We’re pleased to bring Indiana this valuable tool.”
The IRC has partnered with Solid Waste Management Districts, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, municipalities, retailers and other organizations across Indiana to develop a database of drop-off locations for recyclables, household hazardous waste and other special wastes and reusable materials. This database, which already contains more than 1,800 drop-off locations, will be updated monthly. Users who know of drop-off sites that should be added to the database are encouraged to contact IRC’s program manager Katie Graham @ 317-632-5915 or [email protected].
