Why I Buy Recycled Content Products Today

by Kristen Gibson

I feel that recycling is very important for the safety and security of the world today. In order to keep all the recycling efforts alive, it is important to buy recycled products. The Missouri government stats, "In order to fully realize the environmental savings from recycling, there must be strong consumer demand for products made from recycled materials." Most articles that are recycled are priced well and meet consumer expectations.

The reason I buy recycled content products relates back to recycling. I believe that recycling is incredibly important. To support recycling, you should buy recycled products. Not only does buying recycled products help you feel a sense of pride and assistance to the Earth, it helps support a company's recycling efforts. I place more trust in a company that takes the time to manufacture recycled products, than one that makes products out of new materials. Consumers should encourage and help companies that produce recycled products.

I have found that purchasing recycled-content products is not difficult. They are everywhere. Common products with recycled-content are everyday materials like tissue paper and paper towels. If you own a computer, it is now easy to find recycled paper to put in your computer. The very long list can go on. This all starts with the consumer, so I like to set an example and buy recycled products.

As you arrive at the store to go shopping, you should choose products with the symbol that has three arrows in a triangle. However, this does not always mean the product has a high percentage of recycled-content. You should read the label to be sure that the product is completely made of recycled materials. The symbol itself does not really mean there is recycled-content.

These extra measures may seem like much to do and a waste of time. For all the Earth has given to us, I think we owe that little extra time to check the labels on products to make sure it has recycled-content. I buy recycled products because it is just one little favor that I can return.
