Buy only the items you need -- using a list helps avoid impulse purchases.

Buy loose fruits and vegetables instead of prepackaged.

Buy plastic recyclable milk and juice containers rather than cartons.

Use a sturdy string or canvas shopping bag, rather than taking a paper or plastic one.

Buy large containers of water and juice, not individual servings.

Take net produce bags back to the grocery and reuse them, rather than the disposable plastic bags the store provides.
