We are pleased to announce that IRC’s 29th Annual Conference and Trade Show, held June 11-13, 2018 at the Marriott East Hotel in Indianapolis, was an overwhelming success! The Conference was attended by over 200 recycling stakeholders representative many different regions and backgrounds in waste reduction.

ADINA RENEE ADLER

Shift Happens: The Impact of Chinese Regulatory Shifts on Domestic Resource Recovery
Adina joined ISRI in December 2016 to represent the industry in international negotiations and to advocate trade-expanding opportunities for the scrap recycling industry. Prior to ISRI, Adina was Director of Global Government Affairs for Alcoa/Arconic and International Government Relations Advisor for Shell Oil Company, both based in Washington, to advise business leaders on trends in U.S. trade and international policy.Adina also served in the U.S. Government as Director for South Asia in the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) and International Trade Specialist at the U.S. Department of Commerce, both assignments responsible for U.S. commercial and trade policy with the countries of South Asia. Adina has a B.A. from The George Washington University and M.A. from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and has lived and traveled to more than 70 countries for business and pleasure. Adina lives in the Washington area with her husband and 11-year-old daughter.

Better Together: Collaborating to Increase Recycling Rates
Scott Breen is the Associate Manager of the Sustainability and Circular Economy Program with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Corporate Citizenship Center. In this role, Scott helps to strategize and execute programs that increase understanding of key circular economy and sustainability issues and showcase how companies are making their operations more sustainable and circular. Scott leads the Foundation’s Beyond 34 project, which is a first-of-its kind multi-stakeholder project aimed at increasing the current 34% recycling rate in the United States by providing a scalable model for improving recycling and recovery rates. Scott started his career as an attorney-advisor at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Outside of work, Scott explores various aspects of sustainability as the creator and co-host of the podcast Sustainability Defined. His podcast defines sustainability one concept (and one bad joke) at a time. He graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University. He also graduated in 2015 with a Juris Doctor, Master of Public Affairs, and a Social Entrepreneurship Certificate from Indiana University. He is a member of the Illinois Bar.

Improving Quality: Using Data to Crack Down on Contamination
Cody Marshall is the Vice President of Technical Assistance for The Recycling Partnership based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Cody is currently working with local governments around the country to incorporate best management practices into their recycling systems. Cody’s background includes working as a Senior Consultant for Resource Recycling Systems and managing Orange County, North Carolina’s recycling programs where he oversaw daily operations such as curbside, multi-family, electronics, drop-off, commercial, and food waste collection.

The Grand Challenge: Preparing for Environmental Change in the Hoosier State
Janet McCabe is Professor of Practice at the Indiana University McKinney School of Law and Assistant Director for Policy and Implementation at IU’s Environmental Resilience Institute. She is also a Senior Law Fellow with the Environmental Law and Policy Center. From July 2013 through January 2017, Ms. McCabe was the Acting Assistant Administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation at the United States Environmental Protection Agency. She was nominated by President Barack Obama to be Assistant Administrator of that office. She joined EPA in November 2009, serving as the Principal Deputy to the Assistant Administrator of OAR. Prior to joining EPA in November 2009, McCabe was Executive Director of Improving Kids’ Environment, Inc., a children’s environmental health advocacy organization based in Indianapolis, Indiana and was an adjunct faculty member at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Public Health, and at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. From 1993 to 2005, Ms. McCabe held several leadership positions in the Indiana Department of Environmental Management’s Office of Air Quality and was the office’s Assistant Commissioner from 1998 to 2005. Before coming to Indiana in 1993, Ms. McCabe served as Assistant Attorney General for environmental protection for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Assistant Secretary for Environmental Impact Review. Ms. McCabe grew up in Washington, DC and graduated from Harvard College in 1980 and Harvard Law School in 1983.
